DKIT welcomes Youthreach Dundalk learners on campus

Dundalk Institute of Technology (DKIT) recently welcome a group of 10 young people from Youthreach Dundalk on to campus. The visit was supported and facilitated by DkIT’s Community Connector Eibhlin Linden.
The group received an overall presentation on the Institute, which was given by Eibhlin, followed by a talk from Diarmuid Cahill, DkIT’s Schools Liaison Officer who spoke to the group about courses available, deciding on what course to study, college life and what DkIT has to offer.
John Mc Geever, Lecturer in Civil Engineering gave an in-depth talk to the group about Engineering and about what’s involved in doing a Civil Engineering Degree. John also spoke about the different kinds of jobs and areas people work at after completing their degree. Chloe Kelly who is a current student in DkIT also spoke to the group about why she chose to study Youth and Community Studies and what college life is like as a student in DkIT.
The group enjoyed a full tour of the campus, visiting the Institute’s brand-new Science building, the Engineering building, the Hospitality and Culinary Arts Facilities and DkIT’s state of the art Film, TV and Music studios. The tour finished off in the newly furbished Apprentice workshops in the PJ Carroll’s Building and the group were treated to an exciting demo of the Engineering Wave Pool which is being utilised for Renewable Energy Research. To finish the day off the participants from Youthreach Dundalk enjoyed lunch in the main canteen before heading home with complimentary DKIT goodie bags.
