Home 5 Accessibility

Louth and Meath Education and Training Board (LMETB) is committed to ensuring the rights of persons with a disability are upheld across our entire service delivery.  The Disability Act 2005 (the ‘Act’) provides a legal basis for making public services accessible and Sections 25, 26, 27 and 28 of the ‘Act’ place specific obligations on public bodies to make their public buildings, services, and published information accessible to people with disabilities.

  • Section 25: Public Buildings apart from Heritage Sites must comply with accessibility requirements in line with Part M – Building Regulations
  • Section 26: Services for people with and without disabilities to be integrated.  Assistance in accessing the service should be provided and an Access Officer available to assist people with disabilities.
  • Section 27: Goods and services provided to public bodies should be accessible as far as practicable.
  • Section 28: Communication (Oral, written, or electronic) should be provided in a form that is accessible to people with hearing or visual impairments.  Information relevant to people with an intellectual disability should be easy to understand and in clear language.

Reporting an Accessibility issue

The L.M.E.T.B acknowledges that its accessibility journey is constantly evolving with new technologies and updated legislative requirements, and at times there may be issues with accessing some services.  Should you find that an element of our service does not meet your accessibility requirements, please let us know via accessofficer@lmetb.ie so that we can work to improve our service and resolve the matter for you.

When using our services, you may find that some information on our websites is available in PDF format.  PDF formats can be difficult to make fully accessible to screen readers.  Please contact accessofficer@lmetb.ie if you require assistance with an existing PDF.  We will make all reasonable efforts to convert the required document to a more compatible format.

If you find that your issue has not been resolved to a satisfactory level, section 38 of the ‘Act’ allows a person to make an official complaint in writing to the Head of a public body when there is an outright failure to comply with Sections 26, 27, 28 and 29 of the ‘Act’.  This can be done via the L.M.E.T.B Customer Services Officer.
